The Halloween Horror Nights 2019 Soundtrack Is the Best HHN Soundtrack. Fight Me.

I'm a lifelong synthwave fan making the case that HHN 2019's darksynth soundtrack pulled my wife and me into the scare zones like no other year has, and I'm perfectly fine if nobody agrees.

Halloween Horror Nights 29 (2019) Synthwave Soundtrack is the best HHN sound track. Fight me.

My wife and I have been card-carrying synthwave nerds for years now, the kind of couple who'll happily spend a Saturday night with the lights off and a playlist of moody retro synths playing in the living room, so you can probably imagine how we felt when we strolled into Universal Studios Orlando for HHN 2019 and realized the park was playing our music.

It's hard to overstate how rare that felt. Synthwave doesn't pop up in wider culture all that often, and when it does, it's usually a brief wink, or a movie trailer, or a Netflix show, before everybody moves on to whatever's next. Hearing it on the parkwide speakers at one of the biggest Halloween events in the country was a real treat.

What really got me was the scare zones. I've walked through plenty of them over the years, and usually I'm a spectator, admiring the costumes and the set dressing from a safe distance. In 2019, that music pulled me right into the middle of things in a way I haven't felt since. I wasn't watching a scene anymore, I felt like I was part of it. I'm not sure I can fully explain why beyond saying the sound and the atmosphere just clicked for both my wife and myself.

I've got a sneaking suspicion this isn't a popular opinion. Plenty of HHN fans have their own favorites, and I'd guess a good chunk of them would rank the 2019 soundtrack somewhere in the middle of the pack, if they remember it at all. The older I get, the more often I find myself on the lonely side of a debate, and I've made my peace with it.

Here's my evidence, for whatever it's worth. I've listened to that soundtrack roughly once a week since the fall of 2019, give or take a few busy stretches. That's seven years of commutes, chores, and late nights with the same collection of dark, glittering synths, and I still haven't gotten tired of it.

So go ahead, make your case for your favorite year. My wife and I will be over here with the volume cranked, perfectly content being wrong together.
